About the King Alfred
A traditional cask ale pub in Alfreton
Located in the middle of High Street in Alfreton, The King Alfred is an imposing building. Constructed in the 1930's, the pub is the focal point of the busy, bustling ex-mining town a few miles from junction 28 of the M1.
The pub is owned by the Pub People Company, whose offices are based in the nearby village of South Normanton and it is this localness which underpins the newly refurbished pub. From the local cask ales and locally sourced meat to the local printers and suppliers of day to day items, the King Alfred business seek supply from many businesses in the county.
Cask ales play an important role in the pub. There are 8 handpulls, dispensing beer from breweries like Amber Ales in Ripley, Castle Rock in Nottingham and Blue Monkey from Giltbrook. These are alongside well known regional names such as Bombardier, Timothy Taylor Landlord and Theakstones Old Peculiar.

Local Ale
The local CAMRA branch will be invited to hold meetings in the function room and the pub will apply for the LOCALE accreditation which designates that a local ale is always on sale.
The pub will have regular beer festivals often from specific areas of the country like, Yorkshire, Lake District, Cornwall and Norfolk. Other pubs in the group, for example the Lion at Basford in Nottingham have very successful regional festivals every year.
Fresh coffee and food are available every day at the King Alfred. Coffee is made from a tradition Italian, Costa Coffee, style machine and the quality is excellent. This is served from 9am every morning (Ex Sunday). Food is a traditional pub menu with an excellent "2 Meals for £8.49" offer.
